I compose this letter in support of Glen Yung’s interest to run for a seat on the Vancouver City Council.

I have known Glen for over six years, and can attest to his strengths as a businessman, concerned citizen and family man—qualities which will be well employed in the civic sphere.

Glen is methodical and balanced in his approach to financial endeavors; he closely analyzes all potential risks and benefits before starting projects, not just with an eye towards value, but in receiving quality work only from the best sources. To keep abreast of current events, he regularly attends local and state council meetings, and thoroughly researches the issues presented therein; as a community member, he frequently volunteers for neighborhood garbage and graffiti cleanups, along with social outreach events for all levels of the citizenry. His dedication and hard work has inspired many in his community to become as active as he…quite a feat, given the current pessimism that pervades notions of public service.

On a personal level, I know Glen to be intelligent, reflective, curious and fair—attributes that allow him to consider all positions, parse truth from nonsense, fill knowledge gaps with intense research, and find common ground from opposing viewpoints. He’s an extremely kind and thoughtful person, always providing a sympathetic ear or ready to lend a hand to whomever needs one. As a family man, he engenders love, faith and trust; for him, family is a sphere that encompasses not just his immediate one, but also his friends and the community at large. Indeed, Glen has helped me and my family in many ways big and small, and it is no stretch to impress upon you that he will do the same for the people of Vancouver.

To be honest, I would encourage Glen NOT to get involved in politics. I am one of the aforementioned pessimists who believes that power corrupts, or at the very least, turns altruists into cynics like me. However, I firmly believe that Glen is and will be the exception: he will stay true to his ideals of fair play tethered with compassion, and will approach his civic duties with the same responsibility that he shows his family, in that he will always put the needs of others above his own. As integrity, commitment and balance is sorely lacking in current administrations at all levels, you have found in Glen a person who will bring it back… I fully endorse Glen Yung’s bid to run for the Vancouver City Council.

I write to you today to give a very strong recommendation for Glen Yung for Vancouver City Council. I have known Glen for many years, both in professional and personal capacities. Glen is truly one of the most honest, trustworthy and altruistic people I have ever known. He works tirelessly for his community and helps anyone he encounters in any way he can. Even when Glen and I disagree on topics, he has the rare ability truly listen and ponder all facets of an issue while engaging in thoughtful discourse. You won’t find anyone more committed to bringing people together for the good of the entire community.  In everything he does in life, Glen acts from a true place of good and I have no doubt the City of Vancouver would be lucky to have him.
