I’ve known Glen for 13 years. I met him after buying a house from him, when something wasn’t right in the house. (An electrical outlet was in the wrong place and the cord of a major appliance couldn’t reach it) The property transaction had closed and he had no legal obligation to do anything about this. But he came over anyway and spent hours lengthening the appliance’s electrical cord. That night we became friends and have remained so ever since.

Glen is one of the kindest, selfless, hard working, level-headed, civic-minded, worldly, and intelligent people I have ever known. He cares deeply not just about his own family and friends, but also about his community. He sees the world clearly. He can distinguish the difference between the good intentions of government policies and the real world consequences. He supports ideas that are sensible not just in theory, but in practice.

Having worked full time running a business and raising a family, as a citizen Glen has devoted a tremendous amount of time working to build a better community. Please let him continue this work as a member of Vancouver city council. I can think of no one else who would do a better job.

We support Glen Yung for Vancouver City Council.  His attributes are perfectly suited for being a successful member:  he is hardworking, knowledgeable of current city functions, knowledgeable of how to solve our most pressing problems, encourages citizen participation, and is good at making the tough choices when they arise.

Glen and his wife have been friends of ours for many years.  We have seen them grow a beautiful family with respectful hardworking children.  We have seen them run their home building and renovation business through the recession when similar small businesses were among the hardest hit.  In both cases, Glen and Kim have succeeded with elbow grease and common sense.  Hard times require hard choices.  I’ve seen Glen make those hard choices, because it was the right thing to do.

Since Glen has become more and more involved in politics, I’ve seen him take that same work ethic and apply it to local governance.  He has been a member of several unpaid committees, continues to be an active member of his own neighborhood association, attends many other neighborhood associations (to be informed of the needs throughout the city), continues to attend every City Council meeting without missing one for nearly two years, and even admits enjoying reading the incredibly long documents presented at City Council meetings.  Information is key to making good decisions and Glen has repeatedly shown that he is one of the most informed people regarding the current issues facing Vancouver.

Glen’s comprehensive knowledge will allow him to hit the ground running once elected as city council member.  His private business experience in housing gives him a unique view and understanding on the issues that are driving up housing costs.  Not only will he be able to make the hard choices that will help the citizens of Vancouver thrive, he has the know how to come up with creative solutions.  Affordable housing for all means fewer people suffering from and in danger of homelessness.

Glen cares about our community.  I doubt he has a single neighbor that has not at one point in time received a helping hand from him.  Glen wants a thriving Vancouver because it is his Vancouver and his family’s Vancouver.  He wants everyone to work together to uplift Vancouver because it is our Vancouver.
While you are gathering information on candidates for the upcoming election, give Glen a chance.  Give him a call and talk to him about your ideas and dreams for the city.  You will be heard.  Vote for Glen!

Keeping Our Residents Out of Poverty

Spending the Day with Dad-cm

As the council considers what direction to take the city on a number of issues, I think that potential impacts on our most vulnerable residents must be taken into consideration. For example, transportation policy at all levels of government has been aimed at getting people out of their cars and onto public transportation systems. Environmental concerns have largely been the…
